What do you think about riging the game so that not all ships just blow up. But rather sections of them get blown off & then float adrift in space.

Another thing...
There needs to be a lot more ships in the Tears of the Prophets mission featuring the  attack the Chin'toka system.

In addition to the ships already in the mission... There should be 3 Glalaxy Class DW refit ships, 2 more additional Mirand Class DW refit ships, 4  Vor'cha class cruisers,
A total of 8 Brel Class Bird of Preys only, (Not K'Vort Class) A total of 7 Romulan warbirds, 3 to 4 Saber Class ships, A couple Ambassador Class ships, Only 1 Defiant Class ship which is the U.S.S. Defiant you command.

This applies to the DS9 series Finally episiode "What you leave behind" as well.

BTW: the weapons platform needs a real facelift because they don't look very convincing and accurate in my opinion.

Weapons Platform in Ultimate Universe Mod: Not very convincing... eh ???

Weapons Platform in Deep Space Nine: This is what we need in the Ultimate Universe Mod !!

When Weapons Platform is inactive.

When Weapons Platform is active.

Asking a bit much are we?

I'm no actual modder but from my experience I believe legacy's engine was built very limited. VERY limited. The game doesn't like that kind of stuff. like for ships being adrift. it just wouldn't work. it is very possible for the ships to already be on the maps and look damaged. but then would require more modeling. So basically it would be almost impossible with Legacy. UNLESS im wrong then let a professional correct me please.

Legacy as a "feature" can't leave chunks of damaged ships behind indeffinately.  There might be a Lifetime adjustment for the length of time that chunks are visable (might be, I don't know that there "IS").  But as for having them stay behind for the remainder of the map, no it won't happen.

As for scripted missions it's in theory possible to acomplish in such a "controlled" environment as a Scripted Mission.  Say the Wolf 359 mission could be rewritten that when a ship is destroyed to keep it from disappearing.  The plan there is two fold, one is maybe possible to have it leave behind the existing model which is showing whatever battle damage it had received up to that point, another is to swap out the destroyed ship with another model.  The "other model" would be a specially constructed "damaged" ship that shows more "realistic battle damage" than the games damage system, that would take alot of work on the modelers parts to make the "damaged" ships.  Also if every damaged ship of the same class looked exactly the same floating in space... that would look abit odd wouldn't it?

The least intense method would be leave the regular model behind.  Some finesse can be exercised to make it look "more damaged" than it was, as well as potentially adding "drift" and "rotation" to said ship.

I'd say your odds are probably 1 in 10 to see it happen.  I'm the only one crazy enough to do it on the team at this time, and I just don't have the time.  Mission Scripting isn't my "only" job here, it's actually gets a very small portion of the time I spend on the mod, usually I'm doing one of a hundred other things.  "If" I did get to it, you would pretty much be looking at it being put into Wolf 359, and maybe after that time added to some other scripted missions as they are developed where it seems practical.

It's really probably something I could knock out in a few days to a week, as far as the "function", but if I get into working on a mission I want it to be more than just a free for all killing spree.

Yes, there are always ways to do things...to trick Legacy to get it to do what you want it to do. As far as "drift" and "spin" on ships...that's already active and working. All you need to do is knock out a ships power or destroy it's engines and start to pummel it to hell, yes...then you will see it drift and spin. It deals with the "Masscale" coding of a ship, which I put on all ships for 2.0. And if you really want it to last long so you can see it drift and spin, then you have to "up" it's hull hit points so it doesn't get destroyed too fast. As far as a ships "debris" staying on screen, Yes.....there is coding that can be changed in the Art.cfg.h file that affects how long the chunks last before they disappear, BUT...if you do that Legacy most likely will Lag like you've never seen before.
